Bald Eagles in Red Wing, MN

Last Saturday, Kristen and I joined Bill and Melinda Doms and headed east to Red Wing, MN to photograph a large gathering of eagles on the Mississippi River.  Estimates put the number of eagles over 100.

For the 3.5 hours we spent camped out at Colvill Park, there wasn’t too much activity.  There were a lot of close flyovers, which was a pretty unique experience, but there wasn’t much fishing or interaction.

Below, a juvenile eagle tries to steal a fish from a mature eagle.

And finally, here’s a male/female pair of black ducks.  It’s a new bird for us, but honestly, if it wasn’t pointed out to me, I’m not sure I would have known these weren’t female mallards!
